Enterprise Data and Analytics part of partnership that will support new center to cultivate a pipeline into the workforce for the next generation of diverse health technology advocates.

The Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) has announced Meharry Medical College as a 2023 Network Challenge Grantee. This project will support the creation of the Center for Public Interest Technology (PIT-UN) in Health at Meharry Medical College to educate, excite and engage African Americans about PIT with a focus on eliminating health disparities.

Together in partnership with the Department of Public Health Practice, the Center for Health Policy, the Enterprise Data and Analytics Division, HBCU Wellness Program, and the Metropolitan Developmental Housing Agency Resident Association, the center will cultivate a pipeline into the workforce for the next generation of diverse health technology advocates.

The center will be led by Leah Alexander, Ph.D., associate professor and director, Master of Public Health Program, Dr. Michelle Steele, Ed.D., associate vice president of external affairs, and Mr. Ed Wisdom III, MBA, associate vice president, data infrastructure, business intelligence and analytics.

The PIT-UN Network Challenge is a grant program that seeds and supports initiatives to grow public interest technology by encouraging new ideas, fostering collaborations and incentivizing resource and information sharing among the 63 network members. Since 2019, the Network Challenge has provided $15 million to 145 projects that have built new courses, research centers, community and government partnerships, certificates and degrees, internships, fellowships and more. Each project focuses on equity and justice—key pillars of the field—increasing access to PIT education and careers, as well as advancing technology that serves all communities, especially those historically excluded from technology design.
